Target: Aurelia Skipwith, Director, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service

Goal: Protect the rare and beautiful Puerto Rican butterfly from extinction.

The Puerto Rican butterfly has had its population decimated by hurricanes. The island of Puerto Rico is home to some of the most diverse plant and animal species in the world. To lose this butterfly species would be an ecological tragedy.

Threats face butterfly populations across North America. The monarch is the prime example of this danger. For nearly ten years, the Puerto Rican butterfly has been on the waiting list for endangered species protections. In that time, the island has experienced numerous deadly hurricanes, earthquakes, and other natural disasters. The Puerto Rican butterfly, known as a weak flyer, is disproportionately affected. Only 45 remain in the cliffs of Quebradillas.

Sign the petition to demand that the United States Fish & Wildlife Service take immediate action to protect the species from this deadly fate. The butterfly has waited too long for the sanctuary it is due.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Director Skipwith,

For nearly a decade, the Puerto Rican butterfly has awaited endangered species protections, even while its population is decimated  by hurricanes, earthquakes, and other natural disasters. Their population in the cliffs of Quebradillas has reached a mere 45.

Your organization has vowed to revisit the question of protection for this species. I demand you afford it the protection it is due immediately before the beautiful species disappears from the island of Puerto Rico forever.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
